GREY SKIES

Perth has finally got the message that summer is over and the weekend brought with it a beautiful chill and grey skies.

I had the loveliest weekend in a long time, it was filled with farmer's markets, AFL, a sleep in (!), snuggles with my faves, toastface grillah coffee and toasties, and taking my little furry gal pal on adventures.

It was so good that Moanday can't even dampen my spirits.

Hope your weekends were much the same lovers!

BEDROOM BLUES

Guys, I have a dilemma.

It’s a doona dilemma (duvet, quilt, coverlet for any non aussies!)

I need a new one. My one at the moment is black which I love, I really do.
But a black doona is hard to keep looking nice with a white pup who loves a good snuggle (and I love them probably more than she does). Giving up the snuggles isn't an option!!

I am thinking a lighter palette will help – thinking greys and whites with shots of black rather than as a solid colour block.

These are some inspo pics I’m throwing around at the moment.

If anyone knows of any good ones that don’t break the bank – let me know!!

TAIL-WAGGER TUESDAY: WLF-HND

I am dedicating most, if not every Tuesday, to sharing my favourite blogs and websites that are dedicated to our furry friends!
The first in my list is WLF-HND. I stumbled across this gem via Instagram (gotta love the ‘gram!) Run by the lovely Claire and her little pal Bean, it basically celebrates “the relationship between hound and human”.

Claire documents her and Bean’s adventures, style for the ladies and the pooches, a whole mix of everything good really.  Bean also boasts his own label which you can find here.
As soon as I started scrolling I wanted a doggy date with her and Bean and Lola and a huge big chat but seeing as they seas away, this little Q&A will have to suffice for now!

What's out your window: Unfortunately a huge construction site at the moment! We live near some really amazing dog parks though - Mt Tabor & Laurelhurst Park are my favs!
Favourite city:Portland is my favorite all around city and New York City is my favorite city to visit.

Breakfast of choice:Scrambled eggs with veggies & vegan sausage and a side of fruit.

Your ultimate splurge:
My favorite thing to splurge on is vacations

Favourite Flower: Lilies
Most visited website:Honestly I don't really have time to browse sites like I used to. I love instagram as a microblogging platform -- that's where I do most of my browsing. I also love pinterest for the same reason.

Can’t live without:
My dogs.

I love what I do because:I love having creative freedom, being able to have my dogs around all the time, and having a flexible schedule

Make sure you check WLF-HND out – her Instagram and tumblr are also perfection!

BACK2BLONDE

This is happening tomorrow.
EEP!

I've told my gal that she needs to turn me into the third Olsen twin. No pressure

HAPPY THURSDAY

I have been so crazily busy lately! CANNOT wait for the weekend.
Has resulted in a bad blogger moment - exciting things are in the works though!

This is what has been floating around my head this week - proper post soon. Promise!

PERSONAL POST: in my make-up bag

So I got asked to do a post on my makeup routine. You crazy cats! I am so bad at make-up and do not pretend to know much about it, so be warned.

The one thing that I am quite precious with is my eyebrows. I get them done by Alix Walker Artistry and she is amazing. I am also squirrelling away some dollars to eventually have them feather tattooed.

I use Chanel Mat Lumiere for my foundation. I mix it with MAC Strobe Liquid Lotion to make a more natural tone and it’s not as heavy. I apply it with my fingers, I feel a brush absorbs too much of it...

I’ve been put on to Hourglass Ambient Light Pressed Powder – AMAZING: I am all glowy and delicious. Not really, but it is a beautiful finish that really sets your base. A little bit heavy on your pocket but I am hooked. To apply it I use the Real Techniques Powder Brush.

For days that I need concealer, I also got the one from Hourglass. I rarely have blemishes so only really need it for those circles that love to hang off my huge boggle eyes! It blends really well and covers my dark circles perfectly.

I use a Clinque blush that I have had for so long that the name has actually rubbed off. It is a peachy tone and looks super natural.

I’m not loyal to mascara – I use whatever I feel like buying. At the moment it is Calvin Klein. I don’t like to put much make-up on my eyes as they are pretty big and super round and too much on them looks gross.

And that’s it! I told you, super boring and really minimal.

Oh if I’m feeling abit blah, I will use a super bright lippy to make me look better than I feel. Lady Danger from MAC and Rouge Personnel from YSL are my go to.

UP AND AT 'EM

I am literally running out of hours in my day. I don’t have enough time to fit in everything that I need to get done. The solution to this is to get up earlier. Except I suck at it.
At the moment I get up at about 7AM, leave for work at 7.45AM, get home at 5.30PM and then usually have PT or my floristry class. On Saturday’s I am now usually helping with a wedding (yay) which leaves me Sunday to get majority of my stuff done. And it’s not working.
I have done some sleuthing and as of tomorrow, I will be starting to adopt some of the below.

If you are good at waking up early and squishing more into your day, please let me in on your secrets!
  1. Set a bedtime of 7-8.5 hours before you want to wake up. So if you’re waking up at 6 a.m., go to bed between 9:30-11 p.m. Where you are in that time frame depends on how much sleep you need. Most people need about 7.5-8 hours of sleep, though there are lots of variations.
  2. Create a bedtime ritual. E.g. clean up a little (it’s nice to wake up to a clean house), then floss & brush my teeth
  3. No computers in bed. That means no laptop, no tablets, no mobile phones. Kindles are OK. No TV either. Just reading.
  4. Exercise helps a lot earlier in the day. It gets your body nice and tired, so you'll sleep better. Don't exercise and hour or less before bed, or you'll be pumped up.
  5. Put your alarm across the room. If it's right next to you, you’ll hit the snooze button. So put it on the other side of the room, so you’ll have to get up (or jump up) to turn it off. At this point, remember your exciting thing. If you didn’t jump out of bed, at least stretch your arms wide and greet the day.

THE BUTCHER, THE BAKER, THE STYLIST & CREATOR

You know those people that are good at everything, crazy good looking and then are ridiculously lovely to top it off? That's Jess (aka the brain behind The Butcher, The Baker, The Stylist & Creator).

She is a wedding stylist from Perth who is the biggest bundle of beautiful, creative and fun energy all smooshed together. I am lucky enough to be doing work experience with her and loving every single second!

Yesterday's wedding was at the Roundhouse in Fremantle (google dat). It was set atop a hill and looked out over the ocean.

With a cluster of industrial coloured chairs, beautiful bunches of blooms by Hannah Etherington, DIY daisies and the loveliest little DIY drink station, it was literally picture perfect

We stayed and got a sneaky peak of the bride who looked AMAZE. I got teary eyed and I haven't met her HAHA! FAIL!

The reception was down the road at Moore and Moore cafe so while they got legally loved up, Jess, Cass and I went and got that ready.

Moore and Moore is pretty all on it's own but Jess' magical touch took it to next level amazing.

This crazy talented lady even baked all the drool worthy cuppy cakes! (I may or may not have shoved the strawberry oreo surprise in my gob in less than a minute...)

Vintage book stacks, vases of flowers, a wall of cakes, 130 collected vintage cake plates (that I was responsible for unwrapping - freak out) - it was lovely. There was even flavoured sugar cubes for the guests to make their glass of champers that little bit sweeter.

I am so so so grateful - THANKS FOR LETTING ME PLAY JESS! It has cemented that this is what I want to do and that makes my heart happy.

GIRL'S BEST FRIEND

You can keep your diamonds and your men (love you Jez!),  I say dogs are a girl's best friend.

And your best accessory!

Make sure your four legged friend doesn't always get left at home - Lola loves cafe dates as much as me. They will LOVE the special time with you and increase your baben factor x10!

TASTY TUESDAY: BROWN RICE AND QUINOA W/ MUSHROOMS AND ZUCCHINI

Perth gets hot. We all know that. But last week was REALLY hot. And when it is really hot, one of the last things that I feel like doing is cooking over hot gas/oven.

I came up with this super easy, super healthy and really yum one pan meal on Sunday. It takes about 10 mins max and is full of all sorts of good bits to keep our bod happy!

BROWN RICE AND QUINOA W/ MUSHROOMS AND ZUCCHINI

Ingredients
x5 medium mushrooms (I used white but you could substitute with which ever you prefer)
1/2 a zucchini
1 egg white
coconut oil
1 cup of pre-made brown rice (I used Sunrice Rice and Quinoa mix)
A big handful of coriander
Pepper to taste
Hummus to serve

1. roughly chop the mushies and zucchini
2. heat a frypan and add your coconut oil
3. make sure your pan is super hot, and add the mushrooms and zucchini
4. fry them until they develop a little bit of a golden brown crunch, add the egg white and mix it all together
5. once the egg is cooked, throw in your rice. I add my pepper here but you could do this once your done
6. when the rice is warmed through, put into a bowl.
7. add your hummus and corri and you are done!

I have also used avo and ciobani in the past, you can't really go wrong, just add whatever you like :)
